ABOUT WE SEE

WE SEE (Windsor Essex Storm and Environment Enthusiasts) is a team of CanWarn and/or Skywarn-trained (and always learning more) storm chasers with a social media outreach. All chasers are prepared for emergencies and carry first aid kits in our cars.

We provide advance notice of any severe weather events local to our area only (Windsor/ Essex) and provide live weather updates as any event unfolds. This is done directly through our Facebook page and group, as well as Twitter and Instagram.

Beth and Mary Ann originally started this because of the motivation and voiced needs that our family and friends were advocating for; more and more people wanted the information- Hence WE SEE was born- we share what WE SEE and provide a space for residents to share what they see too. Crowdsourcing at its best.

we see supercell_edited.jpg

We provide advanced warning and details on any potential severe weather event affecting our area. When these events do unfold, we provide what is called 'ground truthing" - seeing below what a radar beam can see - so what exactly is happening at ground level (for example, a small or landspout tornado cannot often be seen by radar clearly) as well as ongoing information as the event unfolds.

We also then provide documentation of any damage and send our reports to Environment Canada and the Northern Tornadoes Project from Western University, who will determine if they need to come to our area to assess the rating/strength of an event, such as a tornado or downburst/microburst OR they can decide if this is not needed, based on our information.

We want to ensure people get the most up-to-date, local-focused weather information before possibly damaging events.

Our mission is to keep our communities SAFE and INFORMED.

WE SEE is also available for some community outreach with a power point and discussion on severe weather risks for our area and learning more about types of storms, understanding risks and warnings, and how to respond and prepare for severe weather. Please contact us here if you or your company are interested in this. This is an entirely free service to help our community become better prepared for severe weather.

MELANE LEFAIVE

Moderator -Group

My name is Melanie and I joined WESEE because I've always had a passion for weather/storms. Before I chose environmental science as my career path, I was certain I would be a storm chaser! However, the field work I do now involves monitoring the weather, so I'm happy I get to combine both passions both inside and outside of work with WESEE!

JOE MARCHAND

Mod/chase

Hi! My name is Joe. As a 26 yr veteran truck driver, I have seen my fair share of weather stateside! Notably, I've witnessed 2 major US tornadoes- Tuscaloosa AL- 4/27/2011 and Joplin, MO -5/22I /2011 and this became more important to me in my own hometown on 08/24/2016 when two tornadoes touched down in Windsor and people I loved were at risk.  I am now a trained Skywarn Storm Spotter and a member of the Spotter network.  Helping report locally gained the attention of WESEE- and I am excited to be part of a group with like-minded people with a passion for weather. When not chasing reporting or driving, I am likely chasing my own twin twisters!
